2009 TranSonic Sound Art Festival

"TranSonic Sound Art Festival" is the most experimental and creative
sound art performance in Taiwan. This year, the theme of the festival
is "Sound, Vision and Space". By projecting video images to

deconstructed spaces, artists rebuild the relationship between

visualization and space dimensions, trying to bring new experience in
listening and imagination.

In addition to audio-visual performances, TranSonic 2009 also
presents plenty of eye-opening trans-media performances, including
hand-made instruments, body sensors, air compressor sound
installations and electric light installations.

It is also expected that Keiichiro Shibuya and evala, Japanese
cutting-edge experimental electronic music artists, will bring
impressive performance to the audience.

Taipei based sound artist.
Born in 1981, Nantou, Taiwan. Now study in Taipei National University of the Art, major in digital art. Start to create video and sound works and presenting audiovisual work, also screening in various art event and festivals. My works was celebrated for low profile and cold style. At the same time, also developing some sound installation. I compose time-based sculpture with digital generated materials and some recorded sources sample, make the minimal and the complexities coexist into my works.

Born in 1980, in Hualien, Taiwan.
Played brass-wind instruments in junior high school orchestra and composed concerti around the same time. Majored in flute performance and composition.
First flute and computer concerto, “A fa 6,” is published in 1998. First time noticed by new-media art circle was because of the humorous visual-recording piece, “See Well,” which was invited repeatedly for international exhibition, published when studying in the Graduate School of Art and Technology, Taipei National University of Art. In 2000, published second set of visual-recording work, “CityNEWS,” “Coincidence,” and also sound piece, “Uncertainty

In the same year, started working with artists of different areas, including drama, dancing, pop music, etc. In 2003 to 2006, completed a series of sound installation, titled “Vanishing into Space,” and started experimented artistic creation with mix methods, integrating cross-boundary concepts. In 2007, formed the interpretation of self-consciousness, “Wave,” and produced a dual-structured piece, including a text and an installation. This piece embodied the concept of “text equals art piece,” which became the model of later works. Created a piece with this new concept, “Magneto-Tone.”

In 2008, turned attention toward the ecology and the environment. Maintaining the usual playful, descriptive sense, created “the hundred stories of the sea and ‘Seaing’,” which won the Taipei Arst Award.

Yes!! In the summer, therefore, I counted the whale killings in the Kingdom of Bhutan. I made perfume in winters.
Virgin olive oil. Shortage of coarse bread. Streets. Breeze overwhelming.
I sought balance. Nevertheless, disorder became ordinary, like birds flying in massive numbers, in confusing pattern. And I—I’m balanced.

Fujui WANG

Born in Taipei in 1969. One of the most important figures in Taiwan’s early sound development. He set up Taiwan’s first sound label and paper publish ‘Noise’, which became a great link for international sound network. He went to San Francisco in 1995 for further education and began to experiment under the name ‘Ching-Shen-Ching’. He returned to Taiwan in 1997 and works with Pd/Gem、Max/Msp/Nato in interactive sound and image field. Fujui joined ‘ETAT Lab’ in 2000 for digital art development. Within the lab, he co-curated ‘Bias’ - Taiwan’s first sound art exhibition, and ‘Open play- Digital Art Festival, Taipei’. Currently works in TechArt in TNUA, and working towards expanding multi-dimensional sound development in Taiwan.

His work explores the unclear relationship between sound, light, space and body, with a passion to create and dream.

Born in Kaohsiung in 1982. Work across the area of sound, sculpture, video, kinetic art and sound installation.

He received the First Prize in Live Performance in Digital Art Awards, Taipei, 2006.
In 2007, Chung-Kun Wang has developed a link between sound and sculpture. His new work ‘sound.of.bottles’ in the project named ‘Big Bang' – 100 reasons to make sound had its first performance in Lacking Sound Festival in Taipei, later on its second showing in 2pi Festival in Hangzhou,China. After these performances attracted much attention, he had new nicknames like ‘Frankenstein’, ‘Physicist’ or ‘Edison’.

Chung-Kun Wang now lives and works in Taipei.

Born in Tokyo in 1973, Keiichiro Shibuya is a musician with a bachelor of music composition from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
In 2002 he established ATAK, a music label releasing CDs of domestic and international cutting-edge electroacoustic music. ATAK is also actively involved and supports various creators in the field of design, network technology and filming.
In 2004 he released his first solo album “ATAK000 keiichiro shibuya”, which is highly recognised for its perfection and elaboration of musical structure, focused on the tone and rhythm and use of various sounds and is described as “a perfect work that displays every aspect of the history of electronic music” (Atsushi Sasaki).
Keiichiro’s cross-field collaboration work of music and science with Yuji Takahashi, and Takashi Ikegami, associate professor of complex system research in Tokyo University has been highly regarded by professions of the field. The work has began in 2005 when Keiichiro held a concert with Takashi at the Inter Communication Centre (ICC) located within Tokyo Opera City to perform their jointly produced sound installation work and to announce so called, “the Third Term Music”, a musical theory of sound variation and the motion dynamics based on nonlinear physics.
In 2006 Keiichiro presented his sound installation work “filmachine”, composed of creative use of 3D digital sounds and LED lighting at Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM) in Yamaguchi, Japan.
In the following year he released an album, “ATAK010 filmachine phonics”, the world first 3D digital music on CD for head phones and an award winner of the digital music division at the Ars Electronica in 2007.
In 2008 “filmachine” was presented in the world’s largest annual contemporary and digital art festival called Transmediale in Berlin.
Also in the same year he was asked to create a sound for pedestrian crossing by the International Association of Traffic Safety. His work captured a lot of attention when it was experimentally implemented in Tokyo’s busy crossing in Ginza.
In 2009 he is planning to visit several cities in Europe for “ATAK NIGHT4 Tour”, including Berlin for “Transmediale”. His second album for his solo piano work will be released in July.
Alongside his musical profession he worked as an associate professor at the Tokyo University in 2006 and Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 2007.

evala is a sound artist based in Tokyo, Japan. evala has released 3 electronic music albums and developed a lot of sound designs and other sound products. In 2004 he founded the independent label "port". His first album "initial" (port/2006) had a great impact on the electronic music scene with its strong and sensitive sounds. "initial" was acclaimed to be "a Japanese cutting edge sound art work". evala's signature style is an uncompromisingly artificial editing process of field recorded material. In his collaboration with ATAK, evala received high acclaim for his performance in the "ATAK NIGHT 3" (ATAK/2007). evala programmed the multiphonic 3D sound installation "filmachine" (YCAM/2006, transmediale/2008) and is responsible for the visual programming of his or Keiichiro Shibuya's concerts. A much-anticipated second album will be released in 2009.

Using the generated ttm.app from the third-item music project that has quasi-periodic vibration and chaotic vibration with various texture, and run them paratactic on the time clock sequence program to reassemble them real time by enduring, mutilating, dispersing, or merging.

Again, those output data are connected to the visual program, and the layers and decibels become the color phase or brightness, to visualize the active motion. Dino

The score of DINO's incredible sound can only be found in the assembly
of hardware materials - the systematic recycling of the sparks and hisses
emanating from the inside of his broken circuit. Working without the
typical sound source configuration of electronic music, Dino succeeds to build
the territory of his music through a system of repetitive sound motifs.
However delicately, the work of this interior circuit-building turns itself
inside out to reveal the present status of outer Taipei , land removed
from the political map of the rest of the world.

To distinguish a closed circuit from an open one is essentially a
philosophical problem - in the extreme sense, A alternating current may
never exist in closed form. As such, Dino is not removed from the
karma of making monthly electricity payments, when the interior
recycling is threatened by the expense of electricity, the music
becomes accordingly HARDCORE.
